Nov 30 – Dec 9, 2026

Come explore the majesty of two African countries on our new bush and beach safari for the best game viewing experiences on both land and sea. You’ll be treated like royalty on this exclusive AFS vacation, along with thrilling Nat Geo moments.

We begin at the luxurious Jock Safari Lodge, an untamed wildlife paradise drenched in historical significance, named after a fearless dog who lived here in 1907. This legendary lodge is set in an exclusive private wildlife reserve in a unique corner of Kruger National Park and is celebrated for Big Five game viewing. With 6,000 hectares of bushveld, it offers one of the best game viewing experiences in South Africa with its exclusive riverbed traversing rights.

Imagine sleeping outside under a sky full of stars on your luxurious bed set out on the deck of your private suite. It’s a magical experience to be at one with nature, to feel and hear the energy of the African bush. It’s more than game drives here. Jock Safari Lodge is an extraordinary experience. You’ll love your thatched villa with a private deck and your own plunge pool with spectacular river views. All meals, drinks, and activities are included, along with game drives each sunrise and sunset, when predators search for their prey.

Next, onto the Bazaruto Archipelago of Mozambique, a stunning chain of five tropical islands. Flying in, you’ll get an aerial view of the turquoise waters and pure white sand beaches that will take your breath away. This biodiverse hotspot is famous for its towering dunes and mangrove forests. In December, it is whale season and the time for six species of turtles nesting. Home to humpbacks, dolphins, manta rays, and whale sharks, it’s also the last refuge of critically endangered manatees in the Indian Ocean.

Check into our award-winning Anantara Bazaruto Resort (of The White Lotus TV series fame). Set on a private island within a protected marine park, it features Africa’s finest beaches, exquisite sand dunes, and colorful corals teeming with exotic fish. Here is an escape artist’s dream for its total seclusion, natural beauty, and the epitome of luxury. There aren’t enough superlatives for this dreamy resort, which is fully booked year-round by discerning travelers. Your villa includes indoor-outdoor rain showers with direct access to the beach. Indulge yourself in beachside barbecues, sunset dhow cruises, dune boarding, horse rides, and so much more. We include a special AFS Snorkel Safari out to the exquisite Two Mile Reef.

December is summer in Africa and the perfect time to visit to enjoy the warm Indian Ocean. From Johannesburg to Kruger to Vilancoulos, Mozambique, you’ll get incredible photos of scenic beauty. Limited to 22, so grab your spot now. This is magical Africa—experience the wildest animals in the bush and marine life in a tropical paradise in one amazing journey. No two days are the same…

South Africa is one of the most culturally and geographically diverse countries on the planet. Locals affectionately call it the ‘Rainbow Nation’—a nod to its incredible mix of cultures and its 11 official languages. Often described as “A World in One Country,” South Africa serves up breathtaking landscapes, top-notch food and wine, lively markets, and, above all, the chance to experience vast stretches of unfenced wildlife reserves. Kruger National Park is one of the most iconic, but the country’s untamed wilderness is astonishing wherever you go. The sheer variety of free-roaming wildlife makes South Africa a dream for photographers and nature lovers alike. Join us to discover this slice of paradise.

Baggage Think light to ease your burden, not like you’re fleeing your homeland. You’ll change hotel properties several times. 1 carry-on bag & 1 medium suitcase, not to exceed a 45lb checked bag—use a bathroom scale! Apple AirTags work great to track checked bags (and even carry-ons). Leave space for great souvenirs. Be sure to attach ID inside and out of your bags. Do not pack portable charging batteries in your checked bag—keep these in your carry-on.

Packing

This trip is easy and casual throughout. Pack summer clothes and a light jacket for nights and flights. Bring hat, swimsuit, daypack, water bottle, comfy sneakers. All hotels have hairdryers. Game drives start early and end late—layer up, as it’s cold in open vehicles until the sun comes up.

Most important things: sunscreen (factor 40+), hat, sunglasses, plug adaptor, phone charger, small daypack for game drives. The resort has a dive shop with all swim gear, including snorkeling and diving gear.

Cool travel hacks from AFSers: pack an overnight outfit in your carry-on, bring liquid IV packets to hydrate, use packing cubes, Downy wrinkle spray, an extra nylon bag for laundry, plenty of US dollars for tips, a fully charged travel bank, less is more, and get Global Entry.
