In addition to Suzy & Terry, our Gracious Tour Leaders are experienced guides who service as ambassadors, coordinators, and chief cheerleaders. They're experts at creating welcoming environments where strangers can become friends.
Our Gracious Tour Leaders are on our solo travel tours to serve as a liaison between the local staff and the AFS group. They are there as an escort and not a guide. Nationally licensed guides will be with you for all tours, and they can answer all questions concerning the destination. Our GTLs have been selected because they have been on dozen-plus AFS trips and share our vision of having large fun!
Carol Huntington - New Mexico
Meet Carol, a globe-trotting powerhouse who’s led 40+ AFS adventures since 2007. She’s explored 125+ countries on all 7 continents, inspiring every group with her boundless enthusiasm.
Carol’s secret is her genuine love for people and her calm, problem-solving style. She builds connections, keeps everyone smiling, and always goes the extra mile. Her recent sabbatical? A 13-country epic—just one example of her passion for discovery.

Deanna Purdie - Georgia
Meet Deanna, Atlanta’s fearless traveler and AFS standout since 2017. She’s explored 60+ countries (mostly solo), and with degrees from SCAD, she’s your go-to for eye-catching social media.
A tech whiz with an IT/Communications background, Deanna’s also your fix-it expert. When she isn’t solving tech issues, she’s skiing, snorkeling, hiking, or hitting the gym. After 8 years of studying French, she always has fresh travel tips.

Janice McDonald - Georgia
GTL Janice was an early AFSer and has traveled with Suzy since almost the beginning. She has visited more than 96 countries and all 7 continents both on her own and in her job as a writer and television producer! She has actually been to Antarctica TWICE – once with the legendary Jacques Cousteau and a second time with Prince Albert of Monaco. Imagine that. While she currently works mostly with ABC News, she spent 20 years with CNN, reporting news across the globe.
A prolific writer, Janice has written 17 books on travel and history. She also has an independent production company called J-Mac Productions, which has afforded her the opportunity to do independent documentaries as well as producing, marketing, training and commercial materials. She has won numerous awards, including 6 Emmys and three Edward R. Murrows, for her work.

Meet Joey, a seasoned fitness pro with 30+ years in the industry. As a certified rehab fitness therapist and personal trainer, he knows how to challenge and support all skill levels.
Since 2013, Joey’s led adventure trips, including Kilimanjaro climbs and events for athletes with disabilities. His leadership always earns top marks.
Joey’s personal feats are next-level: 3 World’s Toughest Mudders, 5 Spartan World Championships, 7 Spartan Beast Races, and more. With his deep experience and love of adventure, Joey is the perfect leader for your next fitness tour.
Christy Hintz - Flordia
Meet Christy, our travel bug queen! After losing her husband, she found new life in travel—her first AFS trip to Africa sparked journeys to 5 continents and 50+ countries, with highlights from Mongolia to Mozambique!
A New York native now in sunny Florida, Christy retired from teaching special education but is busier than ever. She sings in a band, volunteers with adults with disabilities, and supports foster kids. Her mission: spread patience, kindness, and laughter everywhere she goes.
Everyone adores Christy’s energy and heart. With each trip, she inspires others to embrace adventure. We can’t wait to see where she heads next!
